This year, last Friday in September, we attended the European Researchers’ Night with a popular science activity called “The Microscopic World of the grapevine ” with the aim of informing the public about the daily impact that science has in everyday lige and society.
We showed the visitors a grapevine infected with pathogenic, only beneficial and a combination of pathogenic and beneficial microorganisms. We pointed out the visual symptoms caused by pathogens and explained the physiological processes behind them and the consequences they have on plant health, as well as the possibility of how beneficial microorganisms can reduce or even cancel the harmful effects of pathogens. Do microorganisms have an exclusively uniform nature, or can villains sometimes be useful? As these are current topics of the GRAPE-PATH 3 project, we had a lot of news and results to present to an interested audience.
